The magnificent Acropolis, built in the 5th century BC, is visible from almost every part of the city, and it’s surviving treasures are showcased at the Acropolis Museum, found at the foot of the Acropolis' southern slope. Follow in the footsteps of Socrates at the Agora, the heart of ancient Athens' civic life, visit the Parthenon and the Temple of Olympian Zeus – or head out of town to see the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, the site of Ancient Eleusis, or spend a day at one of the many wonderful beaches. All while eating fabulous fresh food and enjoying a little ouzo.
